Imagining Four More Years of Trump

has me baking banana bread for comfort and taking cold showers to shock my system today. (Two very extreme ways to respond to stress today)

We did it. As a nation, we have endured Trump’s presidency for four years. Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday when he got elected and more often, it feels like we have been living in the 60’s indefinitely. (Again, two extremes) But hasn’t that been the experience of being citizens in his presidency? We have learned to experience and endure extreme leadership. A new normal has developed.

What has become normal in Presidential Leadership in the last four years?

  1. A Twitter Leadership. (Whether you consider him a leader or not, he has been the president of United States of America for four years)
  2. Name-Calling
  3. Championing Intolerance
  4. Burned Bridges with Allies
  5. Making Decisions With Apathy
  6. Transparent Criminal Activity
  7. Negligent Response to a Pandemic
  8. Normalizing Sexual Predators
  9. Lack of Public Speaking Etiquette
  10. Stimulating Fear

These are just the ten things that come to mind as I reflect on what has become normal to see in the President of my country. I want to expand on each one and I also know that for those who need to read this, you do not need a further explanation. Those who disagree with that list, whether I expand or not, you cannot read anything bad written about Trump. (Two extreme perspectives)

I understand that I have not lived long enough to have memories of living under leadership before President Clinton. Trump makes me wish the Clinton Scandal was our biggest concern. And perhaps you can read that list and connect it to previous Presidents. But we are not talking about the past. Today is Election Day. Today is the present. And millions of citizens will be voting for this new way of Presidential Leadership. That is why I will be eating warm banana bread all day for comfort and taking cold showers through the day for shock. Living under extreme leadership has normalized extreme ways of operating.
